Agasthiyar was a Siddhar, or wise, in the Vedas. Also mentioned is the Agasthiyar clan. to have "authored" many of the mantras in the oldest and most revered Hindu scripture, the Rig Veda, in the sense that the Supreme Brahman first showed him the mantras in his mind. Agasthiyar also wrote the Agasthiyar Samhita [ref: Bharathi Dharma] Agasthiyar is viewed as by some to be the best of the Seven Sages or Saptarshis.
