Sage Markandeya

One of India's greatest saints is Sage Markandeya. He is a member of Saint Brihu's family. He performed severe repentance, and his unwavering devotion to Lord Shiva has elevated him to immortality. Both the Vaishnava sect and the Saiva sect consider him to be a great saint. He delivered outright commitment and demanded individuals show genuine affection towards all-powerful. He is one of the immortal "Chirangeevis" and has reached the point where he sets an example for devotion. Sage Mrukandu gave birth to Sage Markandeya. The couple severed their ties to Lord Shiva and had no children. Lord Shiva granted them a wish based on their devotion, allowing them to choose between an intelligent son who would only live 16 years or a stupid son who would live a long time. The couple picked a smart son. They were immediately blessed with a son whose magnificent aura and eyes sparkled like diamonds thanks to Lord Shiva.

Sage Markandeya's Legend: Sage Markandeya possessed the epitome of knowledge by nature. A thread ceremony was held for him when he was 12 years old. Despite their happiness, their parents were extremely depressed. Sage Markandeya was able to make the observation that his parents were always downcast. He insisted on his parents because they were sad, and he found out that their parents were upset because of the blessing from Lord Shiva. To please Lord Shiva, he made the decision to perform severe repentances. Lord Yama appeared to remove him from the world when he was 16 years old. To reap his soul, he applied his "Mrutyupasha" to him. The young Markandeya was holding a Shiva Linga at that point. Lord Shiva emerged from the Linga to kill Lord Yama because he was extremely enraged at Lord Yama. He killed Lord Yama with ferocious rage. He was given immortality and given the name "Chiranjeevi" by Lord Shiva. Sage Markendeya is said to be residing in the Himalayan mountains in his Sukshama Roopa, a divine power of invisibility.
This supposedly took place on the banks of the Markanda river in the Kurukshetra district, where Lord Shiva's Markandeshwar Mahadev Temple was built. Numerous individuals hold the belief that the incident took place in Thirukkadaiyur, Tamil Nadu. Purana Bhagavata: As per Bhagavata Purana, Sage Markandeya implored towards Sage Naradha. Lord Mahavishnu gave Sage Narada the ability to show him an illusion in which a small child was floating in a leaf. He described it as death, the Lord of Time, and Lord Narayanan. Sage Markandeya entered the child's stomach and discovered the seven universes and the great cosmos. The Sage came out of the child's mouth when he saw that. According to the Bhagavata Purana, he then transformed into a fervent devotee of Lord Vishnu. Conclusion: People's devotion, compassion, and strong belief that God will eradicate negativity flourish as a result of these great saints. Numerous people pray for longevity at the Thirukadayr temple.
